Take Action Against Hunger this September

August 31, 2017

The Hunger Coalition of Monroe County will be participating in Feeding America’s Hunger Action Month this September and we invite you to join us.

There are many reasons why individuals and families find themselves without enough food for an active healthy lifestyle including underemployment, stagnant wages, and a rising cost of living.  In Monroe County, 41.8% of households have housing costs greater than 30% of their income – significantly higher than both state and national averages.  This high cost of living forces individuals and families to make difficult choices between food and other necessities.

Hunger and food insecurity is not always easily seen especially in rural communities, but its effects can be devastating among our most vulnerable populations including our children, senior citizens, disabled individuals, and the homeless. Together, more than ever, we need to stand UNITED against the $9,821,000 annual food budget shortfall in our community.

TAKE ACTION TODAY and join the Hunger Coalition of Monroe County. The Coalition meets the third Thursday evening of every month at NCC Monroe Campus in Tannersville (6pm-8pm). To learn more about the ways you can help fight hunger and food insecurity in our community, visit the Hunger Coalition’s new Facebook Page or email: Jen Strauch.
