Meet Connie Yuhasz

May 31, 2018

United Way of Monroe County’s WOMEN UNITED Co-Chair and Community Investment Committee Member

“I am blessed to work for a corporation that has afforded me the opportunity to give back and get involved in outreach in our community,” says Connie Yuhasz, Pricing Analyst for Weiler Abrasives Group. Connie is involved in multiple aspects of United Way; she is the Co-Chair of WOMEN UNITED, a member of the Community Investment Committee, a member of Weiler’s United Way Campaign Committee, and a dedicated volunteer who participates in United Way’s annual Day of Caring. Connie was Chair of Weiler’s United Way Campaign in 2015 and was awarded both the Outstanding Campaign Champion Award and the Clifford R. Gillam Award, which recognizes the spirit of outstanding volunteerism to United Way of Monroe County. As Connie explains, “Our United Way workplace campaign takes on a life of its own.  We engage and educate our co-workers with fun activities along with an onsite community garden, where our co-workers can plant and harvest their own produce. It’s definitely the only workplace campaign that features its own Golf Tournament!”

Strong Family Values

Connie was born and raised in New Jersey and grew up in an athletic family.  She has ten (yes, 10) siblings who all played sports. Her dad and mom supported the community through local youth organizations. Her dad coached baseball, softball, and football and was president of their local youth association; he believed in teaching and building confidence through sports.  Her mother ran the Women’s Auxiliary and also coached. Her parents encouraged Connie and her siblings to give back and work hard and were strong examples of giving of time, treasure and talent. Connie’s been married to Michael for 34 years, and they have two children, Tamie and Michael and 3 grandchildren, McKenzie, Harper and Mason, just born in early May!

Great Corporate Citizen

Connie started her Weiler career 28 years ago and considers Weiler as the true definition of a Good Corporate Citizen; as she says, “we embrace and support the local Barrett community as well as the broader community of Monroe County.”

Connie takes her parents and organization’s community support to heart, as she is also very involved with Weiler’s in-house Community Engagement Committee and 3C (Customer, Co-Worker, Community) Committee. These committees review grants and allocate funds that support local non-profits that includes United Way, United Way partners’ Women’s Resources, Pocono Alliance, BSA, Minsi Trails Council, Pocono Services for Families and Children and Burnley Workshop, and others, such as the American Cancer Society, Brodhead Watershed, Barrett Friendly Library, Barrett Community Center, Girls on the Run, AWSOM, and the Pocono Mountain Regional EMS. The 3C Committee also runs an in-house food drive that supports C.A.M.E., a local food pantry. Connie and her Weiler coworkers also support their local Rotaries – both Mt. Pocono and Barrett Township – with their activities.

At Weiler and in her personal life, Connie knows the value of working together and working as a team, whether it be day-to-day work activities or for the United Way Campaign.  She understands that no one individual or organization can succeed alone, but together, more than ever, we can make a difference and create positive change in our community.
