Contributions to Crisis Response Fund Reach $100K and Counting

March 26, 2020 – During this time of uncertainty and need, local businesses, companies, foundations and individuals are stepping up to help their community through COVID-19 and the economic impacts of this health crisis. One week since its inception, the Crisis Response Fund has received generous donations totaling $100,000 and counting. The money will be dispersed among well-vetted local organizations in the form of a one-time grant.

Sanofi Pasteur, the vaccines global business unit of Sanofi has contributed an astounding $50,000 to help individuals and families throughout Monroe County. As a global biopharmaceutical company focused on human health, Sanofi is dedicated to supporting people through health challenges, including COVID-19.

ESSA Bank & Trust has also stepped up to contribute $20,000. Other significant donations are being made by Ann & Karl Weiler of Weiler Corporation, Steve Somers of Vigon International, Lehigh Valley Hospital-Pocono and Pocono Health Foundation. Lehigh Valley Hospital-Pocono is playing a leadership role in the pandemic crisis – above and beyond the donation.

“People are asking how they can support their community while practicing social distancing from home. Contributing to this online fund is a great way to get involved and make a difference from the comfort of your couch,” said Michael Tukeva, President/CEO of Pocono Mountains United Way. “We’re all in this together, and the Pocono community will always come together during time of need.”

The Crisis Response Fund, lead by Pocono Mountains United Way, will release grants on a rolling basis. The Crisis Response Fund Committee determines which organizations receive funding. The money will assist in several areas of need, including but not limited to providing food for children and seniors, rental assistance, and support for homeless individuals or displaced college students.

When donating to the fund, Pocono Mountains United Way commits that 100% of contributions will support crisis response efforts. View the original press release here.
