Pocono Mountains United Way & the Community Foundation of Monroe County Help Support Monroe County Families with Food Crisis Fund

Pocono Mountains United Way and the Community Foundation of Monroe County moved quickly in November to put community generosity into action through the Food Crisis Fund, created to ensure families across the region have the food they need. The community’s response was amazing, contributing $61,085 in a matter of weeks!

“We are deeply grateful for this outpouring of support from every person, business, and organization that stepped forward to help feed our neighbors,” said Michael Tukeva, President/CEO of Pocono Mountains United Way.

To make the greatest impact, the Food Crisis Fund was distributed across Monroe County’s food access network. 50% of the fund went to Second Harvest Food Bank as credits for all seventeen food pantries serving Monroe County. Credits will be based on each pantry’s recent food distribution volume, helping the most active pantries offset cost-per-pound of food and delivery charges.

40% of the fund was allocated to the six regional pantries to assist with food purchases, using established county distribution ratios.

10% supported Monroe Meals on Wheels, helping subsidize meals for clients not fully covered by government programs and ensuring homebound seniors and adults are able to receive consistent meals.

“This momentum is inspiring. I am thankful to see our community respond with care,” said Samantha Holbert, Executive Director of the Community Foundation of Monroe County.

Pocono Mountains United Way and the Community Foundation of Monroe County encourage continued support of future initiatives. Every donation helps local families and strengthens our community.
