Pocono Mountains United Way and the Community Foundation of Monroe County Partner to Unite Against Hunger Across Monroe County

Stroudsburg, PA – November 2025 – Pocono Mountains United Way and the Community Foundation of Monroe County have launched the Food Crisis Fund, a bold new initiative to combat rising food insecurity and ensure no Monroe County resident goes hungry.

With food pantries across Monroe County reporting record demand, thousands of local families are struggling to afford basic groceries. This includes the most vulnerable seniors and children whose families visit local food pantries. To meet this urgent need, the Food Crisis Fund aims to raise $100,000, beginning with a $15,000 seed contribution from Pocono Mountains United Way. All funds will be distributed directly to the regional food pantries serving Monroe County residents. This equips food pantries to purchase nutritious food to complement their existing supplies.

“Food is a basic need. Our neighbors are facing tough choices every day, and the need for food assistance continues to grow,” said Michael Tukeva, President/CEO of Pocono Mountains United Way. “By working together with the Community Foundation of Monroe County, we’re building a unified response that invites our community leaders to join the call and ensure food remains accessible for everyone who needs it.”

The Food Crisis Fund will operate with 100% transparency, and 100% of all donations will be distributed directly to Monroe County food pantries. Oversight will be provided by a community-based committee to ensure accountability and equitable distribution across the county.

“This partnership reflects what can happen when we come together with purpose and compassion,” said Samantha Holbert, Executive Director of the Community Foundation of Monroe County. “The Food Crisis Fund is a tangible way for individuals, businesses, and organizations to make an immediate impact right here at home.”
