EDUCATION

Success in life begins with a quality education. And yet, millions of children and youth lack the support they need to strengthen their literacy, stay on track in school, graduate high school and find a career.

We’re fighting to shift the odds so tomorrow’s leaders can build a better foundation today. With an approach to education that spans from cradle to career, we’re ensuring every child gets a strong start in life, teenagers have the tools to learn and grow, and young adults thrive in the job market.

Generation Next

Generation Next is a college readiness, access, and completion program created to correct disparities in education. The program works with students to achieve college admission, integrate into college life, and complete a post-secondary program. Students receive programming within their high school classrooms that develops essential skills for navigating high school and college, builds their understanding of their self and interactions with others, and prepares them for college or post-secondary education.

The Generation Next program was created by Community Action Lehigh Valley and is being offered at Pocono Mountain West High School. The program supports students throughout their time in high school and continues this support during their chosen post-secondary education through mentorship and peer-to-peer support. Students are eligible for the Generation Next program if they meet a minimum of two of the following criteria:

1. Eligible for free/reduced lunch
2. Is a first-generation college student
3. Identify as a person of color

Students enrolled in the Generation Next program will receive enriching lessons focused on social emotional learning, development of soft and hard skills, financial literacy, SAT preparation, as well as fun and educational college trips.
