ABOUT

We're all in this together. For the Pocono Mountains.

On April 1st, 2019, United Way of Monroe County and Pocono Alliance formally merged to become the Pocono Mountains United Way, in an effort to better assist individuals and families in need in Monroe County through increased collaboration, efficiency and impact. Our new combined staff and board of directors are committed to improving the lives of individuals, working families and children. Each of us is devoted to empowering our community and inspiring collaboration to help build a stronger community for the future. We seek to engage the entire community in our work without regard to race, religion, national origin, ethnicity, age, gender, gender identity, disability, sexual orientation, veteran-status, familial status, or socio-economic status. That commitment is reflected in all aspects of our work – service delivery, staffing or volunteer participation.

Anti-Racism and Discrimination Statement

We acknowledge that since the inception of the original settlements that now make up the United States, systemic racism and discrimination have limited Black, Indigenous, and People of Color from – among other injustices – building wealth, accessing healthcare, and receiving equitable education. Our nation’s economy, infrastructure, and systems of government were shaped by this racism. This continues to create inequities for marginalized communities.

Racism, discrimination, and prejudice erode humanity and destroys our collective ability to thrive and flourish. It is the responsibility of each of us to actively and intentionally challenge instances of and systems perpetuating racism to ensure a safe and equitable future for us all.

Pocono Mountains United Way seeks an equitable Monroe County, one where an individual’s race, ethnicity, nationality, skin tone, native language, or tribal affiliation does not determine their educational, financial, or health outcomes. We commit to educating ourselves on how systemic racism, discrimination and implicit bias impact the populations we serve. We will work to create an organizational culture which provides equitable opportunities and supports for all individuals on our team. We will then collaborate with organizations, communities, and key stakeholders to advocate for and mobilize resources to address present and emerging needs to counter the legacy of systemic racism.

The united way requires all of us.
