Child Care Needs in Monroe County
On May 3rd, 2018 ESU students from Dr. Carducci’s Mathematics Modeling class presented “Project Daycare” compiling interactive maps of daycare location, top employer locations, monthly daycare cost, and STAR Level comparison. 70% of Monroe County Daycare Facilities are STAR Level 1, which is required for licensure and focus solely on Health & Safety. Approximately 40% of families in Monroe County cannot afford daycare for their children. It was expressed that this number may even be low. Surprisingly, the data showed that STAR 2 facilities cost MORE on average at $900 per month than higher quality programs at STAR 3 ($698.20) and STAR 4 ($714.29). The presentation (which you can download by clicking below), provides links to some informative maps of our community that were developed by the students. Check it out.
