Special Olympics Greater Lehigh Valley, Pocono Region

An accredited local program of Special Olympics of Pennsylvania (SOPA), Special Olympis of Monroe County (SOMRC) offers year-round sports training and competition to children and adults with mental retardation. It has expanded to include several sports, such as aquatics, soccer, floor hockey, basketball, bowling, and volleyball. Athletes compete in dozens of local and state events, and have the opportunity to compete in international games every two years. SOMRC is lucky to be based at the “Pocono Family YMCA” located on Main Street in downtown Stroudsburg, which has facilities for most of our sports.
